Direct answers about availability, privacy, providers, subtitles, Plex, public access, and what the private preview does not yet offer.
Is Omakase Plus open source?
No. The Plus source and repository remain private. This public site explains the product and its operating contract without publishing the private implementation.
The related public Omakase recommendation product is distinct.
Can I sign up for a hosted service?
No. The current release is a private, self-hosted preview. It does not offer public signup, billing, a multi-tenant hosted service, or a public installer.
Will it always find every anime?
No. Omakase searches the sources you configure, works past failed candidates, and reports source or provider exhaustion honestly. Availability changes, sources can fail, and providers can reject otherwise eligible candidates.
Automatic checks can continue for airing titles without pretending a missing episode is ready.
Does Omakase bundle media or sources?
No. It bundles no media, tracker account, indexer account, provider key, or public multi-tenant download service.
Owners are responsible for the sources they configure, content rights, local laws, provider terms, and network exposure.
Do I need Real-Debrid?
No. Import-only Local Storage + Plex is the recommended first install. Real-Debrid is one optional provider adapter.
Do I need a VPN?
Not for import-only. If you explicitly use local public-swarm BitTorrent, peers can observe the peer IP. Consider local laws and a properly configured VPN. A VPN is not a guarantee of anonymity or permission.
Does it support any VPN provider?
Omakase does not endorse or integrate a commercial VPN brand. The optional reference uses generic Gluetun configuration, including its supported providers and custom WireGuard/OpenVPN modes.
Are subtitles guaranteed perfect?
No. Omakase prefers switchable English subtitles embedded in the exact release and preserves other embedded languages. That reduces cross-cut drift risk.
It can label a verified English burned-in fallback when eligible switchable candidates are exhausted. Representative client playback is still required because an upstream mux can contain timing problems.
Can it use external subtitles?
Only as explicit fallback evidence. They must match the exact media release fingerprint and be marked synchronization-verified. A same-title subtitle from another encode cannot make an episode ready.
Does it delete media?
Normal synchronization and Plex publication do not delete provider media. Library rollback selects a retained generation. Any exceptional destructive provider action sits outside the ordinary flow and requires separate proof.
Can it update AniList?
Yes, after explicit OAuth connection. It can add Planning entries and mark a recommendation Completed with an optional score. Failed remote writes remain retryable and visible.
MyAnimeList writes are not enabled in the current release.
What remains owner-led?
Obtaining an authorized release, choosing legal sources, configuring private access, mapping storage and Plex, protecting secrets, testing backup restore, and deciding whether to enable an optional provider remain owner responsibilities.
