Start here / choose a path
Choose your setup
Compare app-only discovery, an existing media stack, and optional Plex without installing more than you need.
Start with the smallest useful setup. Omakase is the app; Plex and the other services are separate components. You can add them later.
Three ways to begin
| Path | What you prepare | What it gives you |
|---|---|---|
| Omakase only | Docker, private app configuration, writable app data | Account/Setup, anime title search through public AniList, personal planning and existing records |
| Existing stack | Your service addresses and credentials | Connections to services you already operate; explicit mounts if importing files |
| Optional Plex | Prepared media/configuration directories and the Plex Compose profile | A separate Plex server that you sign in to and configure yourself |
Use compose.standalone.yaml for an app without media mounts. Use compose.local.yaml for local imports and managed publication; --profile plex adds the optional Plex container. These files are alternatives, not overlays. See requirements and deployment modes before switching.
What zero integrations means
No saved service connections are needed to create your account, finish Setup or search anime through the public AniList catalog; anime search still needs internet access. Movie and TV catalog search requires a configured Seerr connection. An empty app-only installation does not offer those searches. Anime AI recommendations require your own AI connection. Personal records and cached observations do not imply live catalog or media access.
Connect only what you need
| Connection | Purpose |
|---|---|
| AI model credentials | Anime recommendations using your chosen model; not required for all browsing |
| AniList | Anime history and optional explicit list updates |
| Plex | Media-library access, playback checks and explicit history import |
| Seerr | Required for movie and TV catalog search/details through its configured backend |
| Riven | Supported movie request/acquisition workflow with tested Plex and Seerr |
| Real-Debrid | Optional configured download/cache adapter; not a catalog or permanent backup |
| Prowlarr | Optional configured anime release-source search |
A service connection does not install that service. Save credentials in your own Settings, then choose Test connection. Blank credential fields preserve saved values. A successful test proves access at its timestamp; it does not prove that a particular title is playable.
Choose storage separately
Explore first needs no media mount. Local/NAS uses an administrator-mounted source root, read-only in the app, and a separate managed library root. Cloud downloads uses your configured server adapter and provider account. None of these choices guarantees availability.
The Setup choice only saves your account's guidance. It does not change the running adapter, install software, mount SMB/NFS, alter host permissions or start downloads. A folder on your laptop is not automatically visible inside the server container.
Import-only needs no VPN. The optional qBittorrent lane has separate networking requirements. Movies have their own tested connection requirements; automated TV acquisition is not supported.
