Use the app / audio and subtitles

Choose audio and subtitle languages

Separate requested languages, verified media tracks and a person's playback selection.

Released optional capability. New-install feature flags default off; each installation needs operator qualification before opt-in activation. Saving a preference is separate from qualifying the media pipeline.

For example, request one copy with both French and English audio. Two members can use it in different languages without sharing ratings or replacing each other's media.

Three different questions

QuestionWhat answers it
What languages do I want?Your allowed preference or the library default
What tracks are really present?Verified physical file inventory
What is this person playing?Verified personal Plex account and stream selection

A release name is a search hint, not track proof. Unknown tracks and unknown viewer selections stay unknown. Catalog metadata alone never makes a file ready.

Choose, preview, save

  1. Select your library. Open Settings → Download criteria → Audio and subtitles.
  2. Choose Anime, Movies or TV, then My preference or the owner's Library default.
  3. Select required languages. At least one accepts one of them; Every requires all of them in compatible tracks.
  4. Preview without saving. Save only when the summary matches what you want.

Open Preferences and fallback languages for softer choices. Preferred languages rank compatible candidates. A fallback is an explicit alternative to a require-one rule, never a shortcut around require-every. Up to eight languages per list are supported; regional variants stay distinct.

Subtitles need enough dialogue

Required subtitles must cover full dialogue. Forced or signs-only tracks do not substitute. Choose whether selectable subtitles are required, preferred or may use a separately verified burned-in fallback. SDH includes sound/speaker descriptions and is an explicit choice.

The owner controls whether members can save personal preferences or choose different rules for a request. Members cannot change the library default. Reset removes only the current domain's personal preference, or restores that domain's original owner default.

What saving does not do

Saving changes future request choices. It does not rewrite existing requests, replace working media, create evidence, run a search or enable automatic acquisition. Movie backend requests do not claim to enforce every recorded language through Riven. TV remains catalog and tracking only.

Original policies are preserved: anime requires English full-dialogue subtitles with unconstrained audio; movies require English audio; TV has no required language. New-install recommendations are not silently substituted.

The UI feature flag is OMAKASE_PLUS_LANGUAGE_SETTINGS_ENABLED with private mode. It defaults off and is independent of household navigation and verified publication capability. Enable only after the exact release's combined migrations 033–036, rollback and storage/UI checks; media dispatch needs its separate qualification.
